Backchat initiative letter

5th January 2010

Dear Parent / Guardian

As you know we are constantly trying to improve behaviour and attitudes at the school. Our excellent exam results of 76% % A*-Cs back this up but there is always room for improvement. We believe that Chestnut Grove has a responsibility to prepare our students for the outside world and as a Rights Respecting School we believe that staff and students should treat each other with respect.

So this term we are going to have a focus on rudeness and inappropriate language. Rudeness and backchatting causes severe disruption to lessons, and detracts from the learning of other students. Therefore, if a student is rude or backchats a member of staff, the sanction will be a detention of one hour on Friday. The student will also go on report to his or her tutor.

Students must learn as they mature that that rudeness is not acceptable in the outside world and so is not appropriate in our school. You will be notified by letter if your child breaches the code the school is putting into place, and is given a detention.

We look forward to your support in this matter.

Yours faithfully

Mr D Bergin
Deputy Headteacher
