Homework is an important part of the school’s ethos of high achievement and academic progress. It is vital because it increases learning time by 25% a year and enables students of all abilities to develop the skills and habit of independent learning for lifelong learning.
It is also important because it is the main channel by which education becomes a shared responsibility between home and school, and provides information for parents and carers about the programmes of study.
At Key Stage 3, the majority of subjects set homework once a week with the exception of English and Maths which set homework twice a week. Subjects such as PBE and Computing have only one lesson per week and therefore, set homework every two weeks.
Year 7 students have the whole homework timetable introduced to them gradually over the first half term. They will receive Maths, English, Science, Languages and HEALTH homework weekly from their first week.
At Key Stage 4 the majority of subjects set homework once a week with the exception of English, Maths and science which set homework twice a week.
In the Sixth Form students will be set a minimum of five hours of independent study for each subject taken.
