Folklore has it that Turner strapped himself to the mast of a ship in a terrible storm to feel what the landscape looked like (above, his painting Calais Pier)
Head of House: Mr Smith
Turner House are a hard working and dedicated house who know how succeed. Like Turner himself, we are not afraid to step out of comfort zone in order to make the most of new experiences and relish the opportunities around us. At the time of his painting, Turner was considered to be a controversial figure, but the legacy of his painting has elevated him to an esteemed status in Art History. In his will he left money to help “decaying artists” of the day and to the Royal Academy of Arts. He was passionate about sending out a positive message and leaving a memorable legacy. It is then fitting that he is now remembered through the Turner Prize, an annual prize for British visual artists under the age of 50.
Like Turner himself, we in Turner house believe we can have a positive impact and lay the foundations for a memorable legacy at Chestnut Grove. With a strong team ethic and a strong sense of belonging, we hope to equip Turner students with the tools they need to achieve all that they want to.
