Drama Intent

The Drama curriculum enables us to practically explore theatre styles, develop performance skills and critically appreciate leading practitioners. Through collaboration, we develop leadership, analysis and evaluate skills.

KS3

At Key Stage 3, Drama and Dance are taught on rotation so students have one hour a week of Drama each half term.  Students are formally assessed at the end of every scheme of work. A wide range of skills, techniques, topics and subject specific vocabulary are taught through:

  • Greek Theatre
  • Physical Theatre
  • Play and script-based Drama
  • The use of Historical events as a stimulus
  • Devised work: individually, in pairs and in groups
  • Written work

KS4

At Key Stage 4, students who chosen Drama GCSE as one of their options have three lessons a week.

GCSE Drama course outline:

  • Unit 1 – 30% and is a practical exploration of a theme with coursework based on work carried out in class. Internally assessed.
  • Unit 2 – 30% and is a practical exploration of a play, with coursework based on the work carried out in class. Internally assessed.
  • Unit 3 – 40% and is a devised or scripted group piece performed to an examiner.  Externally assessed.
