PE Intent

The PE curriculum instils in us an intrinsic desire to embrace a healthy lifestyle and sustain it throughout our lives.

Subjest Overview

Key Stage 3

PE is taught in mixed classes in all year groups. Year 7, 8 and 9 students receive two, one hour lessons of PE per week.

Students will develop a wide range of skills and rhe ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are performing they think about what they are doing, analyse the situation and make decisions. They also reflect on their own and others' performances and find ways to improve them.

This is achieved through the following sports; Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Health Related Exercise, Volleyball, Athletics, Cricket, Rounders, Softball.

Key Stage 4

Students study one, one hour lessons per week in Key Stage 4 core PE. Lessons reinforce earlier learning, as well as develop new skills. We try to give students the opportunity to develop greater consistency in the selection and application of skills. Develop their basic skills specific to the needs of different activities and apply simple tactics. Students show know and appreciate the value and enjoyment of exercise and activity. Therefore creating a greater knowledge of activities and exercise and how they help to develop fitness, health and well being.
Sport Science is taught as an option for KS4 students.  This course teaches students about injury prevention; the principles of training; how the body responds to exercise and sports nutrition. Work is applied to the world of sport and exercise but also to a healthy lifestyle. The course is mainly coursework based allowing students to draft their work and develop ideas as they progress through KS4.
